Austill Mysteries

We need to "backtrack" into the life of William Austill, whose marriage, recorded in Ross Co., Ohio, in 1807 is the oldest real clue to my line of Austills.

If we suppose that William Austill, who died before 1830 (probably in 1829) was about twenty years old when he married, we must look for his parents to have been people who were raising a family in about 1787 - give or take about ten years in each direction! An ambitious and adventuresome young unmarried man might easily have gone into the new Ohio country from any of the states where we have found Austills!

William's oldest son, Isaac, married a Chenoweth daughter; the Chenoweths came into Ohio around 1796 from Kentucky. Possibly William knew this family and came with them.

William Austell, Sr. (d. 1781 - see chart of Nancy Austell) had a brother, Isaac, who lived in the right time period. We know that William Austell, Sr. and Isaac Austell were supposed to be sons or grandsons of the sea-Captain, G. W. Austell.

We do not have a complete listing of the children of William, only suppositions. The oldest child, Isaac, married Abigail Chenoweth; a daughter, Delitha, married in 1832 Alexander Trindle.

Of the following Austills for whom we have marriage dates,
which ones are other children of William and Rebecca Warren Austill?

          Hannah, born abt. 1827
          Solomon, married 1851
          George, married 1834
          Jeremiah, married 1832
Mary Austill, married in 1830 (to) John Wood (could she have
been a sister of Isaac or perhaps a sister to William?)

Some Later Marriages:

        A. C. Austill married Alice 3. Kilburn, 1 Apr. 1863 Ross Co.
George Austill married Rebecca Bodkin 24 Aug. 1851
John Austill married Susannah E. Thompkin 3 March 1860, Noble Co.
Solomon Austill married Margaret Bodkin 6 Feb. 1851 Ross Co.
