World War II. He married Carolyn Hollingsworth of Goldsboro, N. C. July 2, 1949. She received her B.S. in Secretarial Administration from Woman's College, U.N.C. They have two daughters; Ruth Anne, 1956; and Millicent, 1959.

(b-2) Mary Frances Austell was born 1925. She received her B.S. in Home Economics from Winthrop College. She married Robert Eugene Smith, June 28, 1957. He is a Korean Conflict Veteran. He received his A.B. from Duke University. They have three sons, Scott Eugene, 1959; Todd Michael, 1963; and Stuart Raymond, 1964.

(b-3) Maynard Lancaster Austell "Gabe" was born 1927. He received his B.S. from Appalachian State Teachers College. He served three years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Elizabeth Williams from Shelby, N.C. August 19, 1950. She received her A.B. from Women's College of Greensboro. They have four sons; Larry William Austell, 1952; Steven Lancaster Austell, 1954, David Len Austell, 1957; and Michael Cline Austell, 1961.

(b-4) Douglas Elizabeth "Beth" Austell was born 1929. She graduated from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, Charlotte, N.C. and received her B.S. from Queen's College, Charlotte, N. C. She is a nurse at the Veterans' Administration Hospital in Salisbury, N. C.

(b-5) Raymond Morris Austell was born 1933. He served in Marine Corps. He attended Clemson College and is now a salesman. He married Carolyn Cranford of High Point, N.C., in 1968. They live in High Point, N. C.

(c) Frank Austell was married to Elmer Neeley, He died March 1935. She died October 7, 1954. They had two children; Neeley and Betty.

(c-l) Douglas Neely was born 1920 She received her B.A. degree in history from Winthrop College. She married James Robert Adams. He is a construction engineer with a degree from The Citadel. He a World War II veteran. They have two children, James Robert, Jr.,1949; and Jane Douglas, 1953.

(c-2) Elizabeth "Betty" Austell graduated from Winthrop College, Rock Hill, S.C. and Watts Hospital School of Medical Technology, Durham, N.C. She married George R. Marett of Rock Hill, S.C., October 21, 1950. He received a B.S. degree from Georgia Tech. He served in the Air Force during the World War II and in the Korean War. He is Projects Manager for the J.A. Jones Construction Co. of Charlotte, N.C. They have three children; George Ralph Marett, Jr., John Andrew Marett, 1953; and Elizabeth Austell Marett, 1956.

6. Joseph Hopson Austell, Jr. was born February 3, 1869, and was married to Bessie London, of Waco, N.C., May 30, 1899. To this union was born one son, Joseph Hayward Austell, 1904, and died July 4, 1905. Bessie London Austell died July 22, 1906.
