4. (a-3) Emily Byers married John Flay Gardner, March 18, 1937. He served 27 months in the U.S. Army in World War II. They have two children John Flay Gardner, Jr., 1943; and Emily Jane Gardner born March 4, 1947.

(aa) John Flay Gardner married Sharon Gail Norsworthey, in 1971. He received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University, and his Masters in Business at Georgia State Univeristy. They have one daughter, Jennifer, born in 1972.

(bb) Emily Jane Gardner married Joseph Thomas Jordan, Jr., in 1969. She received her B.S. Degree from North Carolina University. They have one child, a boy, Neal Gilchrist Jordan, born in 1973.

John graduated from the University of North Welborn Byers, Carolina (Chapel Hill) in 1948. He served three years in the Air Force during World War II. He married Frances Hartsell Byers of Shelby, N.C. November 27,1948. They now live in Charlotte, N. C. He is associated with Spangler Realty Co. They have four children; Debra Hartsell Byers, born in 1951; Susan Delaine Byers, 1954; and John Welborn Byers III, born in 1957, and Martin Austell Byers, born in 1963.

(b) Ruby never married. She died October 16, 1955.

(c) Bostick Austell married Mrs. Gertrude Goode Rhyne. They have four children; Samuel Harold, Mary Louise, Thomas Bostick, an Bobby. Bostick Austell died October 31, 1958 and is buried in the New Hope Cemetery, Earl, North Carolina.

(c-i) Harold Austell attended Mars Hill College and received his B.S.I. Business Administration from the University of North Carolina. He served in the Army Quartermasster Corp. from April 1943 to November 1946. He married Patricia Richardson, October 20, 1946. They have three children; Samuel H. Austell, Jr., 1948; James Michael Austell,1951; and Susan Ruth Austell, 1953. Harold Austell, Sr. is in the real estate business in Greenville, S. C.

(aa) James Michael Austell married Mariah Ribbing, in 1972.

(bb) Samuel H. Austell, Jr. married Mary Em.

(cc) Susan Ruth Austell married Roger Eugene Holdway. He was from High Point, N. C.

(c-2) Mary Louise married William Ray Moss, February 22, 1947. They have one child; Eugenia.They live in Charleston, N.C.

(c-3) Thomas Bostick served in the Navy 18 months. He married Doris Nichols, July 24, 1948. She attended Meridith College. They have three children.
