(e-8) Leola Bettis married Edgar C. Bowman, Jr. of Granite Falls, N. C., January 29, 1955. They have one daughter, Sharon Elizabeth, 1956.

(e-9) Allen Bettis married Sonja Lowery, October 28, 1955. They have three children; Clara Jan, 1957; Jill Lee, 1958; and Allen Tim, 1960 and died October 27, 1960.

(f) Freelove Bettis was born November 18, 1898 and was married to George D. Washburn on June 6, 1925. They have two daughters; Bettie and Carolyn.

(f-i) Bettie Anne Washburn was born December 6, 1926. She graduated from the University of North Carolina in the year of 1947. She worked at Radio Station W.B.T. in Charlotte, N.C. She wrote and gave her own programs over this station. She married Chris Pappas, Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., June 17, 1950. They have one daughter, Pamela, 1953. They live in California. Bettie died July 7, 1986.

(g-2) Carolyn Bettis Washburn was born May 23, l932; She graduated from Duke University in 1954. She majored in English and Journalism. She works for W.R.S. Smith Publishing Co. in Atlanta, Ga.

3. Samuel Hugh Austell was born February 18, 1864 and died April 15, 1958. He was married to Mary J Bostick of Shelby, N. C., March 28, 1888. She died May 28, 1927. They had five children; Lilly, Ruby, Bostick, Hopson, and Wade.

(a) Lilly Austell married John Byers of Blacksburg, S.C. and later moved to Charlotte, N.C. They have four children; Mary, Agnes, Emily, and John,

(a-i) Mary Byers was married to Jay Black Harrill of Patterson Springs on April 11, 1936. They have two children; Jay Black Harrill, Jr born Nov. 28, 1938 who graduated from North Carolina State University, at Raleigh, N.C. and received a Masters in Business from the University of N.C. On Nov. 28, 1963 he married Janet Lynn Talbot of St. Albans, W. V. and they have a son, Jay Black Harrill, III, 1966; and a daughter Lynn Talbot Harrill, 1969.

Mary Lois Harrill was born in l941. She attended the University of South Carolina at Columbia, S. C. and King's Business Coil in Charlotte, N.C. She married Langdon Mcilroy Cooper of Fort Morgan, Colorado on June 7, 1964. They have two daughters; Marya Ladd Cooper, 1970; and Abigail Harvill Cooper, 1974. Jay Black Harrill died on February 2, 1967.

(a-2) Agnes Byers was married to Howard Reedy Loven, December 12, 1931. They have one daughter, Lynda Byers Loven, 1940. She attended Salem College and Mitchell College. Howard Loven is Gene Manager of De Witt Motor Co., Concord, North Carolina. Howard Reedy Loven died January 11, 1988.
