(c-S) Harold Lee Bettis was born 1918. He graduated from Shelby High School and then Lenoir Rhyne in 1939 with an A.B. He taught years in the city schools of Greensboro and is now Director of MOSES H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro. He was married to Margaret Ford, June 20, 1942. She graduated from Shelby High School and Greensboro College in 1938 with an A.B. degree. She taught in the Greensboro City Schools. To this union were born two children; Robert Edwit Bettis, 1943; and Harold Lee Bettis, Jr., 1945.

(aa) Harold Lee Bettis, Jr. married Sue Lee Pams, June 22, 1969. Hugh Bettis was married the second time to Mattie Beam of Shelby, North Carolina, June 1, 1922. There were no children by this marriage. Hugh Bettis died May 1965, age 76.

(d) Mary Kate Bettis was 1901 in Earl, North Carolina. She was Postmistress at Earl, N.C. for ten years. She married Robert Eugene White of Winston Salem, N.C. October 9, 1929. He was a railway postal clerk and a veteran of World War I. To this union was born one child, Robert Eugene (Bettis) White, Jr. January 2, 1931. He graduated from Number Three High School and attended River Side Military School, Gainsville, Ga., and Gardner Webb College, Boiling Springs, N.C. He was married to Margaret Sue Hammett of Gaffney, S.C., November 6, 1953. They have two children: Sherry Malea White, 1956; and Donny Lynn White, 1957. Mary Kate Bettis White died January 18, 1962. Also born to Robert Eugene (Bettis) White, Jr. was a son, Timothy Christopher, l964, and Baxter Lawrence, born 1967, died July 29, 1967.

(e) Austell Bettis was married to Zela Hopper of Earl, N.C., December 24, 1914. They have nine children as follows; Howard, Mary Love, Austell, Jr., Randolph, Bill Gene, Don, Leola, and Allen. Austell Bettis, Sr. died November 24, 1951. Zela Bettis died April 18, 1951. Both are buried at New Hope Cemetery, Earl, N C.

(e-l) Howard Bettis married Thelma Lynch of Selma, N. C., Sept. 18, 1940. They have two children; Ann Booker, 1942; and Sybil Elizabeth, 1948.

(aa) Ann Booker Bettis married James Fredrick Johnson, in 1961.

(e-2) Mary Love Bettis married James Page from Kings Mountain, N.C., August 25, 1946. There are no children.

(e-3) Austell Allen (Jack) Bettis, Jr. married Frances Blanton of Shelby North Carolina, March 7, 1943. They have three children; Austell Allen Bettis, III, 1946; Jack Stanly Bettis, 1949; and Dovie Lynn Bettis, 1953.

(e-4) Randolph Bettis married Fannie Mae Gaston of Blacksburg, S.C., September 10, 1950. They have one son, Larry Gaston, 1952.

(e-5) William Baxter (Bill) Bettis married Helen E. Willis of Shelby, N. C. January 18, 1951. They have two daughters; Elizabeth Gay, 1953; and Mary Bea, 1956.

(e-6) Gene Bettis married Doris Blanton of Polkville, N. C., May 2, 1954 They have two daughters; Cynthia Denise, born in 1953; and Jane Elizabeth, 1959.
