(d) Jessie Corrine Black married Wayne L. Ware, September 25, 1936, She died March 5, 1951,
(e) Henry Kerr Black died October 10, 1916.
4. Dr. Hugh Ratchford Black was born December 4, 1856, and died October 8, 1933. He married Mary Louisa Snoddy, in 1889 and to this union were born the following children, to wit; Dr Sam Orr Black, Dr Hugh S. Black, Mary Kate Black, Rosa Black and Paul Black, He was a distinguished physician and surgeon and was widely known throughout the South as such. He built, owned and operated the Mary Black Memorial Hospital of Spartanburg, South Carolina and practiced there with his sons.
(a) Dr. Sam Orr Black was married to Sallie Marvil, September 29, 1925 and to this marriage have been born two children; Shirley M. Black and Sam Orr Black, Jr.
(b) Dr. Hugh S. Black was married to Iris Burrus, April 3, 1917. She died December 6, 1933
(c) Mary Kate Black was married to Dr, Morton E Hundley, November, 1927. Her second marriage was to John Gibson Phillips. They live in Dallas, Texas.
(d) Paul Black was married to Anna Mabry, April 27, 1935.
5. Dr. William Clifton Black was born October 18, 1860 and died December 12, 1933. He was married to Nanie Hoke Lester at Christ Episcopal Church Greenville, South Carolina on November 15, 1892, Nannie Black was born March 7, 1868 and died December 26 1936. To this union were born three sons as follows; Hoke Barrymore Black, born January 25, 1894; Hugh Clifton Black, November 23, 1895; and Van Wyck Black, July 5, 1897. He too, was an outstanding physician and surgeon and widely known throughout the South.
(a) Hoke Barrymore Black was married to Ruth Wells, of Greenville, South Carolina on May 10, 1930 and located in Greenville for the practice of law after having graduated from tile University of North Carolina and at Harvard University and taking a post graduate course at Yale. He died November l9, 1951. They had three children; Hoke Barrymore Black, Jr., born June 22, 1931; William Clifton Black, December 3, 1937; and Archibald Wells Black March 17, 1942,
(b) Hugh Clifton Black graduated from the University of North Carolina, his term being interrupted by the Work War in which he served as a member of the American Expeditionary Forces in France, retiring with a commission of Lieutenant. He is now a representative of the Detroit Graphite Company, and travels out of Greensboro, North Carolina. He married Harriet Barnwel and they have two children; Edward Barnwell Black born in 1944; and Nan Lester Black, born in 1945
