(c-2) Mary Ruth Lavender was born June 12, 1926 and married James Warren Starnes of Blacksburg, S.C. in 1948. They lived in Rock Hill S.C. for 12 years and then moved back to near Earl in 1960. Mary Ruth is employed by Belk Stevens in Shelby, N.C. and Warren works for Ellis Lumber Co. of near Shelby. They have one child, Wendi Lee Starnes, born in 1965.

(d) Ernest Austell was married to Emma Cornwell; they have one child, Mary Frances, born January, 1914. She was married to E. G. McSwain; to this union was born one child, Mary Ann McSwain, born in 1940. Ernest Austell's second marriage was to Edna Marchman, 1919; they have one son, Bill, who was born March 19, 1923. Edna Marchman Austell died June 27, 1930. Ernest Austell died January 3, 1968, and is buried New Hope Church Cemetery, Earl, N. C.

(e) Ethel Austell was married to Ruffin Crawford in December, 1921. They have three children; Gwendoyln, John Austell, and Reid. They lived in Earl, N. C. Ethel Austell Crawford passed away October 21, 1965.

(e-l) Gwendolyn Crawford is married to Starr Neely Stacy, Jr. They were married December 21, 1962.

(e-2) John Austell Crawford graduated from State College in 1954. He was Assistant County Agent of Mecklenburg County from 1954 to 1960, then County Agent of Rutherford County. He is now County Agent Guilford County, N. C He married Mozelle O!eta Long, April 12, 1958 and they have one child, Barbara Long Crawford born in 1966.

(e-3) Robert Reid Crawford attended Gardner Webb College. He worked two years apprenticeship for Lutz Austell. He attended Cincinnati College of Embalming and is now a qualified embalmer. He married Mary Jo Kendrick, April 19, 1958. The have a daughter, Rebecca Lynn Crawford, born in 1968 and Robert Reid Crawford, born in 1964.

2. Leola Austel was born January 5, 1861; she married Allen Erastus Bettis on November 28, 1878. He was from Earl, N.C. She died April 14, 1921 of heart Failure, and he died suddenly May 15, 1929 while making a talk in the New Hope Baptist Church. He had expressed a desire that the end might come to him at the church. To this union were born 8 children; Will, Sallie, Baxter, Hugh, Kate, Austell, Leitha, and Freelove.

(a) Will Bettis married Corrie Towery; they have no children. Will died March 20, 1960 and is buried in New hope cemetery, Earl, N. C.

(b) Sallie and Baxter Bettis were single and lived in Earl., N.C. Sallie Bettis died Jan. 18, 197l at the age of 88. Baxter Bettis died October 20, 1966, age 82.
