(b) Bertha Austell was born August 20, 1884 and died March 15, 1973. She was married to William Lee Shuford, Jan. 12, 1909. They had five children; Margaret, Bertie Lee, Tolly, Carolyn and Ward. They lived close to Grover, N.C.

(b-l) Margaret Austell was born 1909. She attended Asheville Normal College. She married Joseph Wilhelm of Augusta, Ga., June 1935. They have one daughter, Margaret Shuford who married Robert Wilson Freyermuth, in 1959.

(b-2) Berty Lee was born 1913. She took nurse's training in Baltimore, Md. She married George Wood of Mass., in 1942. They have two children; Linda Frances, born in 1943; and George William, Jr., born in 1946.

(b-3) Tolly Martin Shuford was born 1916. He served a time in World War II He married Charlotte Markha, in 1941. They had two boys, Billy and (Buzzy) Tolly Martin, Jr. Billy died February 9, 1958. Tolly and family now live in Kings Mountain, N.C.

(aa) Tolly M. Shuford, Jr. married Joyce Marlee Bolin, in 1968.

(b-4) Carolyn Elizabeth was born in 1923. She graduated from Winthrop College in 1944. She taught pre-school in Greensboro, N. She married C. Edwin Watts, July 31, 1948. He is a buyer for Sears Roebuck & Co. They have three children; Alan Rogers Watts, born in 1962; Carol Lee Watts, in 1957 and died in 1957; and Camille Susan Watts, April 13, 1959. Carolyn and Edwin Watts now live in Atlanta, Georgia.

(b-S) Ward Quitman was born August 28, 1925. He served 2 1/2 years in the Air Force. He was attending Clemson College at the time of his death. He died in a car wreck, August 8, 1946.

(c) Mary Jane (Mayme) Austell was married to Roy Mac Lavender, Dec. 3, 1913. They had two children, Columbus Quitman and Mary Ruth. Mayme and Roy live near Earl and Roy was a farmer. Roy died at age 57 on January 7, 1944 0: cancer and Mayme died at age 78, in 1965 of a massive stroke while visiting sister Ethel who was very ill. Both Roy and Mayme are buried in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery at Earl, N. C.

(c-l) Columbus Quitman Lavender was born in 1914 and married Marg (Libby) Edwards of Raleigh, N. C. in 1938. They thev three children; Margaret Ann (Peggy), born in 1941, Judy Faye born in 1942; and Johnny Mac, born in 1945. Columbus Quitman (C.Q.) does road construction work and lives near Earl, N

(cc-1) Margaret Ann (Peggy) was married to Emmett Steve Jackson Blacksburg, S.C. in 1962. They live near Earl, N.C. where Steve is employed by Fiber Ind. They have three children Sherrie Denise born in 1964; and Michael Steve, born in 1968.

(cc-2) Judy Faye married Jerry Cooper of Woodruff, S.C., Dec. 4, Judy is a registered nurse and Jerry is employed at the bank in Woodruff, S.C. They have three children; Lori Ann, born in 1966; Bret Austin, born in 1969; and Cindy Lynn, Born in 1972.
