There is much uncertainty concerning this William Austell and his connections to the family. William died in 1781, he was married to Amelia (nee?) (also known as Millie.) Some sources state that he was born in St. Austell, England, (but offer no evidence.) Some sources indicate that William Austell, Jr (dob March 1777, dod 20 Dec 1840 in Jefferson County, Tennessee), is the son of William, Sr. Other sources indicate that William, Jr., may be the son of Isaac Austill, Sr. and that Isaac is the son of William, Sr. This William could be the second son of Joseph & Sarah (of Ore, Eng & Pennsylvania). If that is the case then he was born 15 Mar 1699, shortly before the family immigrated to America.
Much hinges upon the age of William, Sr. at his death; a fact which is not known. If he was the son of Joseph & Sarah then he would have been 78 yrs of age when William, Jr. was born, which makes it unlikely (but possible) that they are father and son. William, Jr.'s birth coincides with the range of the family of Isaac, Sr. and Isaac Sr, who would have been born no later than about 1745, would "fit-in" as a possible son of William, Sr. (Confused?? so am I!)
Per another Source, this William (Sr.) had four sons: This source makes no mention of any daughters
Joseph, according to this source, had a son Stephen who moved to Texas
then on to Tennessee, he is the father of Alfred Austill
The author of this page currently subscribes to the theory that William, Sr. is the son of Joseph & Sarah, with Isaac, Sr. being his son, and William, Jr. the son of Isaac. The reason I hold that view is that it seems to be the best "fit" with the data that I have. However is it just a Theory and I would not present it as documented fact. Hopefully, as more information from the Colonial Era becomes readily available some of this uncertainty may be cleared up.
