Austill / Austells in Virginia

Isaac Austill bought 200 acres of Land, on Coleman's Creek, in Halifax County, VA from John Hunter on 15 Aug, 1765. Isaac sold the above land to Pleasant Turner on 18 March 1773. On 20 Sept. 1786(?) Isaac sold 101 acres on Coleman Creek to Pleasant Turner. The 1782 Virginia census lists Isaac as head of a household of 10, in Halifax Co. VA.

It is not known where Isaac may have lived before he arrived in Halifax County, Virginia. One source suggests that he was born in Salisbury, North Carolina; however this is very improbable as Isaac would have been born by the mid 1740's (one source states he was born before 1734.) There were virtually no settlers in the area of North Carolina which became Salisbury, NC., and Salisbury itself was not founded until 1755. A study of the movements of settlers of that era suggests that if he was born in Salisbury, it would likely be Salisbury, Pennsylvania, or possibly Salisbury, Mass., or Salisbury, Connecticut.

We know that Isaac, son Major, and families had left Virginia for the Yadkin Valley of North Carolina by 1786.

Isaac Austill bought 132 acres (in the Yadkin Valley, Surry County, NC.), at Fox Knobs on Deep Creek from Salathiel Martin, on 6 Aug, 1786. The 1790 Federal Census lists Isaac as head of a household of 10 in Surry Co., NC.

I have no other information on Austills or Austells in Virginia. The only census which I have found Austills listed in is the one of 1782. The 1782 Virginia census lists Isaac as head of a household of 10, in Halifax Co. VA. (This census is sometimes reported as having been the 1790 Federal Census but a careful check proves otherwise)
