As he requested in his will, Thomas Austell was buried in Exeter Cathedral.
In October of 1987, Robert Joseph Austill, of Santa Clara, California, visited the Cathedral and was able to find the burial place of Thomas Austell. THe inscription on the stone slab, set in the floor of the Cathedral, is worn very smooth and is all but illegible; but a book kept in the cathedral gives the location of the burial.
