17 May, 1917, Isaac N. Austill, one of Pike County's best known residents, on Saturday morning at the Dayton's Soldier's home where he had been ever since 24 Oct. 1916. The deceased was one of a family of ten children, and was born 8 Sept. 1845, at Piketon, Ohio. He attended the Piketon schools and farmed until the Civil War. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the 149th Ohio, Co. "A". He was discharged August 3, 1864, at Camp Dennison, his honorable discharge being signed by President Lincoln.
Mr. Austill was married to Caroline Johnson, of Lucasville, Feb.14, 1869. His wife and daughter Emma live in Piketon. Besides his wife and daughter at home, three children, Mrs. Charles Armsey of Chillicothe, Mrs. Jacob Lauerman of Portsmouth, and Mrs. Frank Spurk of Darlington, Md. survive. One sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Roberts, lives in Eudora, Kansas. He also leaves eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Interred in Mound Cemetary at Piketon.
Thursday, 28 Nov.1918. Miss Emma Austill died at her home in Piketon. last Monday. She was living with her widowed mother, Mrs. Caroline Austill, who is left to mourn her loss. Internment: Mound Cemetary.
