ELIZA BORDERS

ELIZA BORDERS, third child of Major Hugh Borders and wife, was married to Jefferson Black, March 15, 1850, and to this union were born the following children, to wit: Lavisa Jane, born January 1, 1851; Mary Catherine, January 15, 1853; Thomas Carroll December 28, 1853; Hugh Ratchf~rd, December 4, 1856; William Clifton, October 18, 1860; Lizzie James, January 1, 1864; Cora Janette, May 18, 1866; Hattie Susan, July 1870; Florence, April 29, 1873; Sallie, January 1, 1876; and Eliza, April 29, 1878.

1. Levisa Jane Black was born January 1, 1851, and died August 20, 1930. She was married to J. L. Stowe on November 17, 1870. The following children were born to this union, to wit: William Pegram Stowe, who died young; Herbert Clifford who died young; John Kennedy, who died; Charlie Forest; Dr. Allie Hunter; Hugh Borders; Mary Wray, who died while a student at Asheville Normal College; Hattie Cleveland; and Sara Eliza.

(a) Charlie Forest Stowe was born October 9, 1873, and was married to Mattie Catherine Wright on June 5, 1901. He died May 16, 1940. To this union were born the following children, to wit: John, Margaret, Houston, Martha Sue, and Charlie Frank.

(a-1) John Stowe was born September 5, 1903. He married Ora May Warlick, September 6, 1927.

(a-2) Margaret Stowe was born December 8, 1905. She was married to Weaver Jerome Spivey on February 19, 1927. Born to this union were: Charles Jerome, Jr. and Shirley Ann.

(b) Dr. Allie Hunter Stowe was born February 15, 1880, and died in Sept-ember, 1939. He was married to Martha Jane Nolan on January 16, 1907. T this union was born the following children: Margaret Ruth, Virginia Dare, Martha Black, and Mary Wilson Stowe, the last two being twins.

(c) Hugh Borders Stowe was born September 30, 1883, and died in April, 19 He was married to Cora Lewis on September 30, 1904, and to them were born two sons, Logan Perry and Temple. Logan Perry Stowe was married to Corre Hemrick on June 16, 1927, and to them was born one son, Logan, Jr.

(d) Hattie Cleveland Stowe was a teacher in Gastonia City Schools.

(3) Sara Eliza Stowe was born May 16, 1894, and was married to E. H. Arm strong on November 26, 1919, and to this union two children were born: William Burwell and Rachel Stowe.

2. Mary Catherine Black and Eliza Black died in infancy.

3. Thomas Carroll Black was born December 28, 1853, He was married to Carrie Kerr on January 1, 1878. Born to this union were: Eliza Cornelia, Henry Kerr, Freelove, Jessie, Corine, and Florence Willard. Carrie Kerr Black died April 1941. Thomas Carroll Black died May 23, 1943.
