WILL OF MICHAEL BORDERS
In the name of God, Amen, I, Michael Borders, of the County of Cleveland and the State of North Carolina, planter, being very sick, weak in body, but of perfect sound of mind and memory, thanks to Almighty God, and calling to mind the shortness of life of man, having thought proper to make my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following, that is to say: my soul I give into the hand of the Almighty God; and my body to the Earth to be buried in a decent Christian like manner at the discretion of my wife and children ; and as to my wordly goods it has pleased Almighty God, 0f his infinite goodness to endow me with; I dispose of them as follows:
ITEM 1st. I give and bequeth to my wife, Susanah Borders, all my Estate, both real and personal, during her life or widowhood and at her marriage, if so be that she should be disposed to marry, or death, all my land to be equally divided between my four sons, Hugh Borders, John Borders, Andrew Borders, and Henderson Borders, and all personal property not hereinafterwards disposed of to be equally divided between all my children - boys and girls - and my wife, if she should marry, she is to have a child's part with the children of both land and the other property, during her life and then to be divided as heretofore mentioned.
ITEM 2nd. I authorize my executors hereinafterward mentioned to pay over to Glenn Borders when he becomes twenty-one years of age the property that I was to give him, to wit: one horse, bridle, and sattle worth sixty dollars.
ITEM 3rd. I give to Glenn Borders, on condition that he remains with my wife until he is twenty-one years of age and is good to her, one cow, and calf, and one bed and furniture.
ITEM 4th. Otherwise my wife is to collect all moneys or other debts due to me and that she pay all my debts.
ITEM 5th. I appoint my two oldest sons, Hugh Borders and John Borders, executors of this my last will and testament.
ITEM 6th. I authorize my executors beyond with the consent of my wife, that is, if she should think best that they should put to sale such of my personal property as she should not need. I want my personal property sold to pay my debts.
ITEM 7th. It is my desire that my executors shall see to and take care of and manage for my wife Susannah Borders, hereby revoking and declaring all and every form of will and wills by me heretofore made and declaring that what is contained in this to be my last will and testament.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand seal, this 21st day of July, A. D., 1846.
Signed and sealed in the presence of His James Robert Jurat Michael X Borders Samuel McBrayer Jurat Mark Reuben H. Runyan
